Campeche — Maya Tuya
Destination · State of Campeche · México Campeche. A walled city facing the sea, with jungle at its back. The starting point of the Tren Maya route — and the place that changes the people who stay long enough to let it.
812 AD Maya founding
History · Walled City · UNESCO World Heritage A city that still knows who it is.

Campeche has walls. Not metaphorical ones — literal. Seven stone bastions built in the seventeenth century to protect the city from pirates coming in off the sea. Those walls are still there. And inside them, the city is still the city.

It's one of the few places in Mexico where the historic centre doesn't feel like a stage set — it feels like a place where people live, work, and have coffee in the morning.

The malecón runs along the Gulf of Mexico. The evenings here have a specific quality of light — golden, unhurried — that makes anyone who arrives late to Campeche regret not coming sooner. The jungle starts where the streets end. And the Tren Maya now connects this city to the rest of the Peninsula in a way that's changing everything: who arrives, how often, and why.

Maya Tuya exists because that change has two possible versions. In one, the businesses that benefit are the ones that appear first. In the other, they're the ones that most deserve to appear. We're here to make sure Campeche is the second kind.
