When to visit
Campeche.

Campeche rewards visitors year-round — but it rewards them differently depending on when you go. Here's what each season actually gives you, and when the city is most alive.

The seasons.

November to February — the classic months.

Campeche historic centre in winter light, Mexico

Cool enough to walk comfortably at any hour, dry enough that the colour of the city comes through fully. The light in December and January has a particular quality — lower in the sky, golden earlier, longer at dusk. This is when Campeche is most itself, and when the walls look most like the photographs that make people want to come.

March and April — shoulder season.

Still comfortable in the mornings and evenings, with the heat building through April. The city is less busy than in the winter peak and the Festival de la Ciruela runs in March — a food and music event worth catching if you're timing a trip.

May to October — high season for festivals.

The heat between May and September is significant — the midday hours require shade and patience. But the evenings are genuinely beautiful: the Gulf turns extraordinary colours after rain, the streets have a cinematic quality, and the city's major festivals — the ones that matter most to Campeche's own residents — all happen in this window. If you come in the hot months, structure your days around the edges: early morning and evening. The rewards are real.
